Starting with design at 8.4 millimeters 234 grams this is a pretty hefty device and with this camera bulge you can’t help but notice this device it’s iconic but it’s also a handful and this is one of the most beautiful white color phones I’ve ever seen with this gorgeous ceramic pack and aluminum edges this truly is a premium device and I call this the among us phone with this giant camera module people will notice this phone when you take it out now yes some may say this camera module is just overkill but considering all the camera tech packed in here I can forgive it and the included case actually, protects this bump.

This display with 120-hertz WQHD plus. This is a flagship display through and through just like the mi 11 before it I’m loving it now that’s not to say though that we’re not seeing these specs on phones at a much lower price point like the Redmi Note 10 pro and the Poco F3 but it’s less about the display specs of this device and more about the quality of the panel and with Dolby vision on board it’s just the icing on the cake and you’ll enjoy everything you do on this mi 11 ultra-including watching YouTube videos playing games and with L1 security level on board it’s an L1 party here on.

Performance and Software

The mi 11 ultra comes with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage onboard the snapdragon 888 this is truly a powerhouse of a device but what I’m more excited to see is that Xiaomi has included better cooling which means this phone is managing heat in a much better way when you’re playing extreme games like PUBG and more and the interface the experience has been buttery smooth I haven’t run into any issues even on this early MIUI 12.0.3 software all in all guys no complaints about performance on this device it is truly a flagship-level device you’re going to have one of the most powerful phones of the 2021 year.

Battery and Charging

In this mi 11 ultra no complaints in the battery department I’m getting easily five to six hours of screen on time with WQHD and 120htz on and if you even reduce to full HD this phone would likely go eight or nine hours of screen on time no problems but the best part about it, of course, is the 67-watt fast charging which takes me from zero to 100 in around 40 minutes and I think it can do it even faster and yes I know the mi 10 ultra-did have a higher charging capacity than this phone but you know what I’d much rather take the larger battery capacity than 120 watts fast charging it’s a solid battery experience on this mi 11 ultra.

Fingerprint Scanner & Vibration Motor

Mi 11 Ultra comes with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner it’s super-fast super responsive just as much as the one on the mi 11 and the haptic feedback on this phone is next level it is as good as the mi 11s maybe even better and Xiaomi has put itself in a position now delivering some of the best haptic feedback on devices this year.

The Rear Display

Let’s spend a little time talking about this rear display now many have commented this looks like the rear display of a mi band 5. and there are several ways you can use this rear display to get more information including the time adding a signature or even adding your own personalized image which I think is a very cool feature as well but the key part of this display is to serve in rear display camera mode which you can use as a preview when you’re taking a photo with the mi 11 ultra.

Now I would have loved to see vlog video capability on this rear display and the news is we may be seeing this with a software update in the future let’s hope so but for now, the rear display still serves as a very useful purpose so you can continue to keep track of all of those things while your phone is face down and in terms of audio we have the same Harman Kardon dual speakers on this mi 11 ultra which sound terrific.

You’ll have all the latest calms on this mi 11 ultra including wi-fi 6 Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and bands 20 28 support as well and 5g speeds have been solid on this device call quality is excellent as well.

Mi 11 Ultra Camera Specs & Analysis

Content Table:

Design  |  Display  |  Feature  |  Battery  |  Camera  |  Buy Now

Here comes the most important question with such a large camera module the mi 11 must be good at taking photos right the main camera of the mi 11 ultra is a GN2 sensor from Samsung with a humongous sensor size of one and a half 12 inches it’s the largest CMO size of any recently released phone both the ultra-wide lens and the telephoto lens are Sony’s IMX 586 a sensor that was used in the main camera in most phones the year before but now the mi 11 is using this popular sensor for its wide-angle lens and a periscopic telephoto lens which is a very extravagant act.

The mi 11 ultra’s color tones are biased towards reproducing realistic scenes without being too vibrant color accuracy is also much improved over the previous generation it performs consistently in most scenes the bokeh from the larger lens size is also more pronounced the background light spot is larger the more evenly spotted light also indicates an improvement in the quality of the lenses performance in dark conditions is excellent with good detail retention, however, the sharpening is a little heavy it doesn’t look very natural Xiaomi developed a new night mode algorithm it is automatically activated in an auto mode according to the light intensity in the current version this algorithm doesn’t seem to be very different from the normal night mode other than that it is difficult for me to pick out any other faults at first.

I thought the mi 11 wide-angle lens would be the biggest improvement over its predecessor the mi 11 ultra but that wasn’t the case the ultra-wide lens improvement is barely noticeable in most daytime scenes only at night in auto mode you can see more noise in the dark areas but the difference is reduced again when you turn on night mode so although the IMX 586 is also used for the ultra-wide-angle the improvement is not as much pronounced as you might expect the lens also has an integrated macro mode but the closest focusing distance is the same in macro mode and normal mode.

So, you can ignore this mode it’s also a step backward compared to its predecessor the mi 11 ultra is still using a 12-millimeter lens with more distortion around the photo which needs to be noted a five times telephoto lens has not changed in terms of hardware but there are software improvements this lens can now be used in night mode but it doesn’t really matter because of the dynamic range of the telephoto lens is much better on the mi 11 ultra as compared to the mi 10 ultra-even without the night mode on I think since it’s a flagship phone the periscopic telephoto lens is still important because it can help you take very good photos in cluttered environments.

You should also notice zooming between the main camera and the five times telephoto is only possible through the frame rate crop of the main camera when you use one time to five times zoom the mi 11 turns off the main camera pixels four in one mode the 50 MP crop frame is automatically invoked to zoom in because the individual pixels of the main camera is large enough you don’t have to worry about excessive loss of image quality you don’t have to worry about the mi 11 ultra’s performance in video shooting either it performs very well all three lenses support 8k and 4k 60fps and you can switch lenses in 4k 30fps recording too notably the mi 11 ultra can only do that in 1080p 30fps video.

The mi 11 ultra is really impeccable when it plays well but there is a problem with Xiaomi’s new phones it’s that the firmware can be very problematic at first the most common problem is the very high shutter lag and the particularly slow HDR compositing there’s also the old Xiaomi problem of wavering white balance but it is much better than the previous Xiaomi phones in this video the telephoto strategy is also a bit strange the mi 11 ultra-zoomed into five times and the same scene calls for a periscopic five times telephoto shoot while the mi 11 ultra-zoomed into five times is a cropped version from the main camera sensor.

So, you need to be careful when you shoot even if you were fine with the previous bugs this one will be hard to ignore sometimes at the end of a photoshoot you’ll find that the photo you’ve taken has been zoomed in multiple times for no apparent reason making it completely unusable the problem has occurred twice in the last few days of taking photos hopefully Xiaomi will fix this issue in the next version soon.

Conclusion

My final verdict on this mi 11 ultra you know what guys there are very few phones in my opinion that truly live up to the name ultra but this phone is one of them from the iconic design to this rear display a very innovative feature still lacking in some functionality but I think that will improve over time so just a fantastic 6.81-inch display rock-solid snapdragon 888 performance and just off the wall specs in terms of charging the battery the touch response the dual speakers and last but not least, of course, the cameras in terms of zoom capabilities and that GN2 sensor is just next level when you put all these things together you have in my opinion the true ultra-phone of 2021 the mi 11 ultra the best phone that I’ve used so far this year.
